8 monsoon skincare tips to take you through the season

Monsoon is well upon us and it comes with its own skincare struggles. Hate the excessive humidity, constant sticky feeling on your skin and the dullness it brings? We do too. That’s exactly why we’ve put together a skincare guide to make sure you get through the monsoon seasons without any skin woes.

  1. Stay away from very thick and heavy skincare & makeup formulas. Your skin produces excess sebum due to the monsoon-led humidity, making it feel sticky to begin with. Thicker skincare blends can go on and clog your pores, possibly causing acne. However, even through the humidity, your skin needs hydration. Make sure you’re using a light gel or lotion to keep your skin adequately hydrated without causing any breakouts.

  2. Excess humidity can lead to bacterial growth on your skin which also makes it prone to blackheads and whiteheads alongside acne, especially in the monsoon. Use a gentle cleanser to wash your skin every AM and PM without fail to keep it clean and bacteria-free.

  3. Acne is most definitely a skin concern that gets aggravated in the monsoon. If you have acne-prone skin, combination or oily skin, breakouts in the monsoon are almost inevitable. Keep your skin thoroughly cleansed, use light, non-comedogenic formulas and make sure you keep rainwater away from your skin as much as possible. 

  4. If you find yourself getting wet in the rain, cleanse your skin and take a shower right after to avoid irritation. You can also use a face mist to soothe your skin and calm any redness or irritation.

  5. While the weather outside your window seems cloudy, that doesn’t mean that the sun’s UV rays aren’t getting through. The sun can still damage your skin even when you can’t see the rays and using a gel-based sunscreen is a non-negotiable skincare step.

  6. Incorporate a gentle exfoliator in your skincare routine 2-3 times a week to keep your pores clean without overly drying them out. Exfoliation also encourages cell turnover and reduces dullness, keeping your skin looking fresh and radiant all day.

  7. Keep your night routine minimal, reduced to a potent face oil or night cream, to keep your skin nourished as your skin rests and rejuvenates through the night. 

  8. Incorporate a skin purifying face mask as a detoxifying treatment once a week and follow it up with a hydrating mist to cleanse and soothe, all at once. You can use an at-home DIY mask, such as a blend of multani mitti with aloe vera as a deep-cleansing treatment to clear up excess oil.
