INGREDIENT FOCUS – HYALURONIC ACID

What if we told you that hyaluronic acid (HA) actually is a secret behind smooth, flawless and hydrated skin? Yes, that’s right and hence so many serums, moisturizers, cosmetic products are going gaga over this magic potion.

Our skin cells actually produce hyaluronic acid naturally in a bid to maintain moisture levels. But, thanks to ageing and environmental aggressors, the molecular weight of HA in our skin dips substantially. So naturally, we need external sources to balance the HA level for an ever-plump skin.

Here are few reasons why you must include Hyaluronic acid in your skincare routine:

  1. Hydration

Hydration = Hyaluronic Acid.

Think of hyaluronic acid like a BIG drink of water for your skin. It is able to hold up to 1,000 times its molecular weight in water. Hyaluronic acid penetrates the skin and binds water to skin cells, infusing all layers of the skin with valuable, rejuvenating moisture.

  1. Humectant

Because of its ability to draw and hold water, it can be used as a humectant in your skincare regimen. After infusing the epidermis (top layer of the skin) with valuable moisture, hyaluronic acid acts as a humectant and continues to draw moisture in from the surrounding environment. This will provide lasting hydration for the skin.

  1. Increased resilience

When the skins’ lipid barrier is hydrated, enhanced and protected by hyaluronic acid, the skin is better able to defend itself against environmental age-factors and pollutants. When our skin is not fighting these toxins, the skin remains less wrinkled, brighter, and bouncier longer.

  1. Better skin elasticity

As we age, the elastin in our skin depletes, and it loses elasticity. A quick trick to check your elastin (the bounce back) is to pinch the skin on the top of your hand. If it snaps back quickly, you still have a lot of elastin. As you age, the skin won’t bounce back as quickly. Hyaluronic Acid can help with the appearance of tightness in the skin. As it fills the skin with moisture, hyaluronic acid tightens the overall complexion.

  1. Reduction in fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation

Hyaluronic Acid helps to reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles retaining moisture to the skin, creating a plumping effect. When the skin is protected and hydrated, increased skin cell production can take place, as the skin isn’t busy fighting for hydration. This leads to smoother, plumper skin cells.

RAS PRODUCTS WITH HYALURONIC ACID

RAS Tips to use Hyaluronic Acid:

  • Remember that HA is a magnet for moisture and hence must only be applied on damp skin
  • Use hyaluronic acid every day, in the morning and at night for greater results
  • HA is likely safe when used appropriate. ALWAYS try a patch test first to avoid any allergic reaction.
  • Use a moisturizer to increase the benefit of the HA, seal it and enhance the retention of fluid (if you’re using only HA serum). Best is to look for serums or moisturizers with HA present in them.
