The festive season is just around the corner which tends to mean a full social calendar for most of us. While we would love for our skin to be glowing throughout, a few too many late nights and all the festive desserts and cocktails can start to show on our skin. We’ve put together a guide to six DIY skincare recipes to keep your skin glowing all season and beyond.
Papaya Anti-Pigmentation Mask
This mask is especially great for those who have hyperpigmentation, sun spots, and an uneven skin tone. It also helps to minimise fine lines and has anti-acne benefits.
- Blend together two tablespoons of honey and a half-cup of mashed papaya.
- Gently apply the mixture over your face for 15-20 minutes.
- Rinse it off and moisturise.
Tomato Brightening Mask
The tomato fruit is a great de-tanning agent for your skin. It has skin bleaching properties which impart a rosy glow. Plus, it also minimises sunburns and promotes collagen production.
- Use freshly pulped tomatoes as a mask.
- Apply the pulp all over your face and let it dry.
- Rinse your face with water.
Honey Glow Mask
Honey has been used for centuries to refresh skin and give it a nourished glow. Not only this, it also helps to treat acne and skin inflammation. If you need to add a dose of moisture to your dehydrated skin, this mask is for you.
- Take a spoonful of honey (do make sure it is pure and sourced from a reliable brand or vendor). You can also add turmeric or milk to it.
- Dip a cotton ball and apply the honey mask all over your face.
- Let it rest for 20-30 minutes.
- Rinse with water.
Masoor Dal Rejuvenating Mask
Masoor dal has skin lightening (bleaching) properties —no, it doesn’t change your skin tone — and is also a very good anti-ageing agent. It also serves as an excellent exfoliator and clears blackheads and whiteheads. With continued use of this face mask, you will notice a visible improvement in your skin health and texture.
- Grind the masoor dal very finely to a powder consistency.
- Dilute the powder with milk, rose water or even a toner.
- Apply it all over your face and let it dry.
- Post drying, gently scrub off your face and wash away with water.
Rice Water Skin Clearing Mask
Rice water has beneficial pore-tightening properties. It also contains antioxidants like Vitamin A and C and reduces blemishes and acne bumps.

- Let the rice water cool down.
- Dip a cotton ball into the rice water and apply all over your face and let it dry.
- After 15-20 minutes, once it has dried off, rinse your face with water.
- You can also store it in a spray bottle and use it as a face mist and toner.
Banana All Rounder Mask
Bananas are more than just nature’s energy sticks. They’re full of potassium, fiber, antioxidants, and silica. Loaded with Vitamin B6 and C, they’re great for your skin. Bananas promote collagen production, reduce skin inflammation, help fight sun damage and hydrates the skin.
- Mash one banana in a bowl. Additionally, you can add a few drops of lemon juice (for oily skin) or olive oil (for dry skin) and make into a smooth paste.
- Apply to your face with your fingers, and leave it on for 15 minutes.
- Rinse with warm water and a washcloth.
